For many people, the Christmas season is a time of loneliness and depression. This is in contrast to those with families for whom Christmas regularly is a time of joy. However, for those away from their families or without families and friends to comfort them, the holidays can be extremely tough.
If you know of such people, why not cheer them with up with photo Christmas cards you’ve either made or had printed for you?
The recipient of such a card very well could care less about the photo you‘ve included with the card. The mere thought someone cares enough about them at Christmastime to send a photo card likely will warm his or her heart.

Some basic suggestions can help the task of taking a family photo become fruitful and enjoyable.
First of all, if it’s a Christmas-oriented family photo you want, one good idea is to start early. Don‘t allow perceived barriers such as not having your own Christmas tree in place be an obstacle. If there’s a mall near your home, odds are good that stores inside will begin decorating for Christmas well before the Yule season. Malls, and mall lighting often can provide you with the backdrop you desire for your Christmas photo well in advance of Christmas itself.
Props such as stuffed animals, Christmas bells, and pets are fair game when it comes to settling young children down for a photo shoot.
Teenagers can rebel and not want to be part of a group photo, but there’s no reason you can’t bend and work with them. Their cooperation can be enlisted without compromising their individuality by taking action shots of them doing what they enjoy doing most, such as playing basketball or riding a horse, and incorporating that shot into a collage of Christmas photos.
Another possibility would be to get creative and take your family photo in an unusual locale, or with unusual props in such a locale. For instance, if you live anywhere near a beach, you could transport the entire family to the beach and shoot photos of your children sitting on a sleigh. Yet another photo possibility at the seashore would be to construct a snowman of sand, stick sunglasses on him, then position your children around him for photographs.
The bright colors of fall can become a perfect backdrop for Christmas cards and eliminate any worries about waiting until late in the calendar year to shoot your desired photo. This could give you the opportunity to make or have your Christmas cards produced well in advance of the Yuletide season. The fall sights of children playing in piles of leaves and/or pumpkin patches, when captured on film, are pleasing any time of year.
The potential subject matter for photo Christmas cards goes well beyond the four major categories listed above and, in essence, only is limited by the imagination and creativity of the individual designing the card.
Yet, one basic remains. Only you can trigger that person‘s joy by sending that card, not simply thinking about doing so.
